I know the rule about no copywrite photographs, my question is; is it alright to post a picture that does not show a copywrite but you know where it came from, as long as you give proper written credit to the originator/photograher of that photgraph in your post? _________________ Those were the days my friends. |

A very good question strat,
The reason we say " No copyright" is that if we show them we are technically publishing them, & by doing that we are breaking all sorts of laws,
I,m not sure if you were about, we were very nearly closed down back in the Spring/Summer for showing copyrighted material, so we had to remove all such pictures from the forum, this entailed looking at 500.000+ pictures
The whole copyright legislation is a minefield of grey area, So for that reason & the answer to your question is "No" we would rather not get involved in any issues regarding copyright, as around here the very word is treated with the same contempt as "Tights & Pantyhose"
As for the second part of the question, somtimes giving credit is not the issue if the owner is not happy about where his picture is being shown

Thanks Borneo. I asked that because I have come upon photos by the great Elmer Batters that were clean and had no copyright symbol or link on them. However you are right about the gray area so it's best to avoid a problem when a slip up (no pun intended) could cause a problem for this great site.
Hope you have a great time in NYC. I may be in there around that time too for the Christmas Show or something not sure yet. I've been to dinner at Ruth's Chris Steak House on 148 West 51st Street near Broadway whenever I get to the city. They make the best steak I have ever had. It comes to you sizzling on a 500 degree F plate so if you try it do not put your hand on the plate at all. It's a bit pricey but worth the visit.
There are many other nice places to eat as well.
