Every time I try to access rapidshare video files posted on the forum I am asked to pay. Is Rapidshare not a free site or am I missing something? |

When you scroll down to the bottom it offers you the choice of free or paid up member. When you click on Free it asks you to enter 3 characters and then you have to wait (from memory - I'm a full member there). I reckon you must be pressing the wrong button. |

Sorry Simon, don't work. I get the message "You have reached the download-limit for free-users. Want to download more?"
So looks like I've got to dip into my pockets |

You have only to wait some time, then you can download the next file... _________________ regards bas |

The other reason could be that you're using a "proxy" which others are using as well. In this case Rapidshare only sees the proxy's address rather than your computer's IP address.
If you can find out what your IP address is supposed to be, go to http://network-tools.com and 2/3 of the way down the page is a box with numbers like 195.188.152.14 - this is the address of my ISP's proxy and shows there when I have it enabled, if I disable it I see my real IP address.
Also look in Tools / Internet Options / Connections / LAN settings and see if a proxy is enabled. You may *need* to go through their proxy but you could try unticking it and see what happens. If the above test now shows your real IP address, that's the cause of the problem.
Not too techie for you I hope? |

Thanks Simon - that sounds like a possibility as I do sign in through a proxy server from this location.. |
